The conversion happens in your browser. The manuscript is not uploaded to any server and is not stored. We only count, without identifying anyone, how many files are converted and of what kind. Never their name or their content.
How it works
Three steps, all on your computer.

It reads the manuscript
A .docx is a compressed file with the text inside. The converter opens it in your browser and keeps what it means: headings, paragraphs, italics, lists, notes, tables and images.
- 02
It asks what it cannot know
The title, the language, the cover, the description of the images that came without one. If the manuscript uses no heading styles, it suggests where each chapter begins and you decide.
- 03
It writes the EPUB
One file per chapter, a navigable table of contents, notes linked both ways and the accessibility metadata that is true of that book. Then the validator tells you whether anything is left.

Carries over
- Word headings (Heading 1 to Heading 6) as chapters, sections and table of contents
- Italic, bold, small caps, underline, strikethrough, superscript and subscript
- Footnotes and endnotes, linked to their reference
- Numbered and bulleted lists, nested too
- Tables, with merged cells and a header row
- PNG, JPG, GIF and WebP images, with the alternative text written in Word
- External links and internal references to bookmarks
- Quotes, captions, page breaks and the gaps you left between scenes
Does not carry over, and we tell you for each file
- Word 97–2003 .doc files and password-protected files
- Typefaces, sizes, colours and margins
- Headers, footers and page numbers
- Formulas, charts, shapes and embedded objects
- EMF, WMF, TIFF and BMP images
- Text in columns and fixed-layout pages
